Panini Announces 2009 Elite Extra Edition
November 03, 2009

With more than 40 first-round and supplemental first-round picks signed, Panini will release 2009 Donruss Elite Extra Edition loaded with autographs of top draft picks as well as free-agent and international signings.

Each Hobby box of Donruss Elite Extra Edition will yield four autographs as well as eight other inserts.

Among the signers for the set are Dustin Ackley, the No. 2 overall pick by the Seattle Mariners out of North Carolina, and No. 3 overall pick Donavan Tate, an outfielder out of Cartersville (Ga.) High School. Tate, a University of North Carolina football and baseball recruit, spent a few days on the UNC campus before signing with the San Diego Padres last August.

The 2009 version of Elite Extra Edition features 150 subjects - 50 commons and 100 Autographed Rookies. There will be autograph cards for each player in the set.

Returning to EEE are Throwback Threads, Aspirations and Status Die-Cuts, School Colors and Collegiate Patches. New to the program are Elite Series signatures, Passing the Torch signatures and autographed baseball sweet spot swatches called Private Signings.

Also new will be the presence of some of baseball's greatest names including Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, Reggie Jackson and Mike Schmidt among others - each of whom had a significant high school and/or college career before making their professional debut.

2009 Elite Extra Edition is scheduled to ship mid-January. A checklist for the product will be released at a later date.
